According to legend, the word ‘tutu’ actually comes from 19th-century French children’s slang ‘cucu’, meaning bottom! How cheeky (and adorable).
This iconic bell-shaped skirt silhouette pioneered with the first production of the classic ballet La Sylphide. The layers of tulle needed to make these dresses were made accessible by the Industrial Revolution’s technological development of bobbinet – a finely netted fabric, which is the historical precursor to our A Little Lacey materials.
